Which is For You - The Senseo Supreme Or the Keurig Special Edition?

!±8± Which is For You - The Senseo Supreme Or the Keurig Special Edition?

Single cup coffee brewing systems have become increasingly popular and there is quite a large variety of different models. In fact, you'll need a spreadsheet when you try to evaluate the different features of each brand. The most important consideration should be the quality of that single cup of coffee that the machine can produce in less than a minute.  As you look at different brewing systems, ask what the machine brews to produce that cup of coffee. Does it use coffee packaged in pods, in capsules or K-Cups? Some one cup machines only have limited options when it comes to coffee choices while others offer a broad variety of roasts. How do costs compare, not only for the machine, but for the pods or K-Cups? For some coffee lovers, the coffee cost is really not as important as the taste and quality of the cup that is brewed. Compare the features of these two single cup coffee brewers, priced 9.99 to 9.99.

Coffee Pods And K-Cups

The Senseo uses coffee pods, small packages of coffee, which fit into the machine. With the earlier Senseo Delux model, coffee pods made especially for the machine gave the best results.  The Supreme is able to use a variety of pods but it takes some experimenting with brands and volume brewed to get the strength you want.
The Keurig brewing systems use K-Cups, vacuum packaged small containers of coffee, designed for this coffee maker. Users were pleased with the variety of coffee available in K-Cups from roasters like Green Mountain, Newman's Own Organic, Timothy's, Tully's, and others. Vacuum packed K-Cups of teas from Celestial Seasonings, Bigelow, and Twinings, as well as, cocoa from Emeril and Bellancino are available.
Quality of the Coffee Senseo Supreme

Many of the previous complaints about weak coffee produced by this one cup machine have been decreased by the addition of the Volume Brewed Control. This allows you to use one large coffee pod or two smaller ones while reducing water volume to brew a stronger cup.
Keurig Special Edition B60

Unanimously, all reviewers reported that the Keurig machine brews a consistently good, full-bodied cup of coffee.  There were no significant complaints while there was praise for the Keurig machine's durability and reliable performance. Consumer Reports  ranks the Keurig B60 as "the best coffee maker of all" in its review of 35 different single serving systems.

A Review of the T-Fal Avante Elite 6 Slice Convection Toaster Oven With Separate Warming Compartment

!±8± A Review of the T-Fal Avante Elite 6 Slice Convection Toaster Oven With Separate Warming Compartment

I recently tested the T-Fal Avante Elite 6 slice convection toaster oven with a separate warming compartment so that I could provide a review to those considering buying this model. I replaced my usual toaster oven with this one for four weeks to get an idea of how it performs with regular usage. Here is my review.

This countertop appliance will cost you about 5 including shipping, putting this model about mid-level as far as price range goes. This toaster oven has something unique: it is fitted with a separate warming compartment on the top, adding to the versatility of this model. The shape of this unit is similar to the ones introduced a few decades ago with a front that slopes inward toward the top, although the digital controls do give it a more updated feel. It is heavier than most models in this price range, which lends to the impression of it being well-constructed.

I like to start out a review period with making toast, since this is one area where many toasters ovens fail to impress. This unit took longer than most to complete the toasting process (almost four and a half minutes) which led me to expect dried out bread. I was pleasantly surprised by the results. I won't say it was the best toast I've ever had, but it was good.

I had planned to roast a whole chicken for dinner the evening the oven had arrived. I was a little skeptical that it would fit, even though the manufacturer's picture shows a beautifully roasted chicken inside the oven. I was again pleasantly surprised as my four pound bird not only fit inside but came out beautifully cooked.

My third cooking task was whole grain blueberry scones. Whole grain baked goods require even cooking more so than those prepared with refined grains. They have a tendency to dry out more quickly. I am happy to report that my scones turned out perfectly, a sure sign of even heating.

Most toaster ovens have a maximum temperature of 450 degrees F, while this one tops out at 500 degrees F. That makes this model perfect for quickly charring a rib eye steak. I checked the temperature several times during the review period to see if it held true to its settings. It was always within 5 degrees, even at the higher temperatures.

I wasn't sure how much use I'd get out of the warming tray, but I must admit I've grown quite fond of it. I can toss frozen vegetables or a loaf of French bread in there while dinner is finishing up.

This toaster oven is better insulated than most, keeping it relatively cool while in use. This also means it wastes less energy since the heat stays inside, where it belongs. I found the controls to be very simple and easy to use. The entire oven and included pans are also easy to clean; the non-stick surfaces work very well.

Overall, I was impressed with this toaster oven throughout the review period. It is very versatile and does everything it ought to do.
